It is vital that individual professional development skills are cultivated at each career level. It is also important to have a dynamic individual development plan which will guide the ongoing improvement and augmentation of both knowledge and the personal qualities that are necessary for the successful execution of professional duties required in any career.

The goal is to provide information on preparing and planning for admission to graduate/medical school, discuss the admissions process and provide strategies to create a highly competitive application packet. This session is intended for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and masters students.
The goal is to provide tips and strategies on how to optimize and excel in a summer research experience and positively impact admissions to a competitive graduate program. This session is intended for undergraduate students.
The goal is to provide information about the process of writing, strategies to develop good writing habits and to overcome writer’s block, presented in the context of writing the personal statement to graduate school. This session is intended for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and masters students.
The goal is to provide strategies to manage personal and professional lives that will lead to working smarter, not harder. The discussion covers creating and maintaining a time management plan, setting goals and establishing priorities, identifying and overcoming time management traps and time bandits. This session is intended for trainees at all levels.
The goal is to provide tips and strategies for a successful graduate/medical school interview. The discussion covers preparing for the interview, potential pitfalls, how to overcome them, and potential interview questions. This session is intended for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and masters students.
The goal is to provide tips and strategies that will lead to success both professionally and personally using communication, networking and leadership skills. The discussion will include how to effectively communicate and network, and qualities of a highly successful leader. This session is intended for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, masters and doctoral students.
The goal is to provide tools and strategies to master effective communication, particularly giving scientific posters and talks, and to use evaluative criteria to develop excellent communications habits. This session is intended for trainees at all levels.
The goal of these one-on-one coaching sessions is to encourage the student to engage in self-reflection, examine career goals and interests, review credentials and qualifications with respect to the goals and interests, and discuss the need for and implementation of an Individual Development Plan.
The goal of this half-day workshop is to discuss the nuts and bolts of developing an IDP such as goal setting, conducting a skills assessment, establishing milestones and deadlines, regular review of the IDP, etc. During the practicum, the small group of students will begin the development of their IDPs under the guidance of the workshop leader.
The goal is to learn how to identify a thesis mentor who will be the best fit for your mentoring needs and career goals. The discussion will focus on questions to explore and understand balancing the research project and your training needs. This session is intended for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, masters and first-year doctoral students.
The goal is to promote awareness and provide insight about mentoring underrepresented trainees, and discuss strategies to overcome barriers to effective mentoring. This will increase the chance for professional and personal success for the trainees. This session is intended for faculty mentors.
The goal of this half-day workshop is to discuss the importance and relevance of diversity, unconscious bias, privilege, and cultural competency, and how they impact behavior. Participants have the opportunity to engage in introspection, explore the stages from cultural incompetence to awareness to humility to competency. This session is intended for small groups of employees so organizations can effectively harness their talents to achieve greater success and productivity.
